Mar 6, 2010 - Because the music of TOOL is never accidental or meaningless. There's so much symbolism in the music that frankly, it would be a waste if it wasn't explored further.

Mar 7, 2010 - Maybe it's just Maynard's joke on all of us who think there is some deeper meaning to all the videos, music and art. Excluding Alex Gray, for we all know there IS a deep void of exploration left in finding the meaning to his mind's work. But for the most part, it could be there is nothing to figure out, it's a richer form of entertainment. Something to make you look for answers when there is no questions presented, instead being handed the answers with no effort. It has made us more intellectual

Mar 7, 2010 - This song and the video are amazing. I just don't understand what it's about...if it is about anything....Whatever. I guess the only thing that matters is that Tool kicks ass!

Mar 7, 2010 - The capitalist system leads to a state of alienation, desenzitation, and social exclusion. Only socialism can liberate us from this inhumane system

Mar 7, 2010 - HEY! I play in a rock band called F3tch, Tool influenced us (you'll see what I mean,) and we want to know what YOU think of our music. PLEASE give us some feedback! YOUR OPINION IS VALUABLE TO US! Furthermore, IF YOU'RE INTO TOOL, YOU'LL LIKE F3TCH. You can hear F3tch on youtube, myspace (url's f3tch) or facebook. IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE, and we'd REALLY appreciate it. Thanks guys!

Mar 8, 2010 - Based on Maynard's fist waving I took this song more literal than others. That said, if someone found a higher meaning in his lyrics I think that would have pleased him as long as the person finding meaning did not then force it on someone else. I think the arguing and forcing opinions onto others using his lyrics would have displeased him. I say this based on his statements that no one way was the right way, he did not believe in anything that would stunt or limit an individuals growth.

Mar 8, 2010 - I agree, far too often people try to build in concrete their own interpretations and assessments and I think most of the lyrics Maynard writes are open to individual experience. But that can be true of a lot of art. People, make your own interpretations but don't go condemning others for their view of the world, let alone a song. Thanks for the post JJG.

PatronSaint210 Says:
Mar 8, 2010 - I believe its about government fisting people up the ass with their gas prices and taxes. He says at first, "Finger deep within the borderline," then on the second, "Knuckle deep inside the borderline," and on the third, "Elbow deep inside the borderline... Shoulder deep within the borderline." It never ends to what lengths they will go to get what they want. To people who don't much understand tools lyrics just sit and pay very close attention to lyrics, almost all the songs are metaphors
SHMIBLY Says:
Mar 8, 2010 - okay i get what the song is about but someone need to EXPLAIN THIS VIDEO TO ME!!!!!!!!!
MissClydee Says:
Mar 9, 2010 - I'm not going to say you're incorrect, but I disagree. I believe this song is purely a sexual reference. "But, not enoooough, I need more, nothing seems to satisfy" "I don't want it, I just need it, to breathe, to feel..." "Show me that you love me and that we belong together" "I can help you change tired moments into pleasure" "Constant over-stimulation numbs me, but I would not want you any other way" "Relax, turn around, take my hand..." What say you?
CakeRunner Says:
Mar 9, 2010 - Take from the song what you want, its what tool is about. But generally speaking the sexual refferences here are just a metaphore and not specifically what the song stands for and tries to convy, there are often different layers of meaning in tools songs the deeper you read into them
MissClydee Says:
Mar 9, 2010 - Why yes. It may mean something different to every person. That's why I didn't accuse PatronSaint210 of being incorrect, because technically they weren't...:D
