If National Geographic wants to do documentary of umbanda...search for RIGHT people...for REAL umbandists. Requests to kill a husband is Black Magic. Jul 27, 2010 - I sincerely cannot believe that NatGeo - a source of knowledge that I have trusted until now - presented such poor documentary about a religion - my religion. You simply cannot show the world a lady who wants her husband killed and tell people this is Umbanda. We already suffer enough from the stupidity that other religions says about Umbanda in Brazil. The last thing we need is the rest of the world thinking this is evil stuff and Dark Magic or something.

Aug 9, 2010 - @natruska I've had the same problem. I'm not a part of Umbanda, but I am part of Haitian Vodou, so I know the feeling. This documentary is probably the equivalent of "Serpent and the Rainbow" for me.

Aug 11, 2010 - @BabyGirlGoddess Candomble- Focuses on the Orisha (Orixa, etc.) Umbanda- focuses on spirits known as Exu, Pomba Gira, etc. etc. Completely different structure of ritual, spirits, and much more. BIG difference. I reccomend reading a book called "Magick in Brazil" for more info.
